McCain picked up BC04 Iowa Chair Dave Roederer to chair his Iowa efforts in 2008. Roederer is an influencial lobbyist in Des Moines. He was Chief of Staff and Legislative Liaison to Governor Terry Branstad.
Roederer has been involved in lots of campaigns. Right now he ihs Chair of the Lamberti for Congress and the Vaudt for State Auditor. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Iowa Chamber Alliance working with Chambers of Commerce throughout Iowa.
Big Pick up for Straight Talk. Roederer is very well liked and respected throughout Republican circles It's tough to be liked by everyone in politics and Dave's done it.

What an idiot you are. The guy is a freakin' institution. He is quiet, guarded, intelligent, respected and above all, loyal. He is the best pick-up of any of the touted "insiders." You all know who I am talking about too. He actually follows through on what he says. Congrats straight talkers!
It's going to take more than Dave to win the caucus for McCain. No one is perfect and I think this time he has erred.
I always thought Dave was more conservative than that. But I guess he does usually support all those local tax increases.
Obviously a good get for McCain . . . no doubt there. However, does it really show that McCain is the "force to be reckoned with" in the Iowa Caucuses?
I think Max Fischer said it all, saying Roedner is "above all, loyal."
This just adds one more level of credibility to the theory that McCain and Bush arranged a quid-pro-quo in '04--McCain would stay out in '04 and would get Bush's support/team/etc in '08.
See more evidence of this more than a theory of the Bush-McCain deal.

While we think your theory is a little bit tinfoil hat- if it is true, would it be such a bad thing?
Bush has put together an organization that has won 2 straight national campaigns, not an easy task. And his fav/unfavs are not as low amongst Republicans as people will have you believe. Actually they are quite high in most polls we've seen.
Overall, if the Bush/McCain tinfoil hat theory is true, it gives McCain a big advantage.
Even if the Bush-McCain tinfoil hat theory is true, doesn't mean everyone within the Bush organization is party to it. Note the recent Fineman article in which he says old/young Bush aides are breaking along McCain/anti-McCain lines.
There's no doubt that Roederer is a great guy. But Presidential campaigns are seldom won by the last guy's team -- but with the sharpest guys who are willing to adapt new ideas. With each new president, a new generation of political talent rises.
This is a good pickup for the McCain camp.
Hmmm... Looks like Bush Pioneers/Rangers etc. lining up behind Mitt, it does....
