Weekend Roundup

The venerable Charles Ernest Grassley said on Iowa Press this weekend that for 08 "Only one stands out right now." In his estimation that person is fellow Senator John McCain. He did add the Rudy Giuliani would stand out as well "if he were in campaign mode."

Grassley continued on McCain. "He's coming into Iowa strong. I believe the thing that would appeal the most to Iowa Republicans is his fight for openness in the appropriation and budgeting process."

"McCain's got to prove that he can get a broad base of Republican support, particularly among conservatives. If he can show that, he may be anointed"

Other stuff:

It's a Hawkeye state! (but we already knew that)

Kerry thinks his 04 message is pertinent today. HA

Bloomberg as an independent in 08. (We think that's a tough sell if McCain or Rudy are the nominee)

Nussle/Culver... Dead Heat.

The schedule for Huckabee's next trip to Iowa can be found at the huckablog. Granzow, Eichorn, Clute and Hartsuch will be joined on the campaign trail by the Governor.

Have a good Sunday

There is nobody that Grassley hates more than McCain. McCain once walked over to Grassley and called him a F'ing jerk on the floor of the senate (ask his D.C. staff about it). Nice. I would'nt hold my breath for a Grassley endorsement John.

Bloomberg . . . hhmmmm interesting. In his own words, "How likely is a 5'7"-Jew-from-New-York billionaire who's divorced and running as an independent to become president of the United States."

I don't know, but it would be fun to find out.

McCain won't get 10% in Iowa-even that might be an optimistic outlook.

Interested in getting your thoughts on Jim Ross Lightfoot's quasi-endorsement of Rudy:

Rudyblogger:

You may notice that Jim and Tammy Faye Lightfoot are no longer in Iowa because they were run out by the party for giving us 8 years of Vilsack and 10 more of Harkin.

And whatever happened to the Rudy-Hillary senate matchup a few years back?

Ya know...I've wondered for years how Bill and Hill were able to fake Rudy's medical reports to convince him he had cancer and had to drop out of the race. It was so coincidental and so beneficial to Hillary that I figured Carville got the vast left wing conspiracy together and they worked it out.

Interesting how things always seem to work out for Bill.
