At least he isn't having a hotbox

The cooler is dry this morning boys and girls. But here's some Dr. Frist chatter to hold you over.

Coming off an impressive weekend in Iowa, where he ran the Bix 7 (footrace) in Davenport, had over 100 people come to an event for the Cooler's favorite son Matt Reisetter in Cedar Falls and had events with Whalen, Nussle and Upmeyer. Looks like the next stop is New Hampshire where he's going to have a clambake...

More from CNN here.

The story also mentions the Barbour to Iowa news that broke in the Cooler. Thanks to the anonymous tipster who wrote the Tip Jar with that nugget.

So is a clambake just a bland yankee version of a crawfish boil?

We're were wondering the same thing Anon 334.

Any readers know what happens at a clam bake? What is the best time of year for clambaking? This is information we need to know.

a cookout at the seashore where clams and fish and other foods are cooked--usually on heated stones covered with seaweed

Too bad we're in Iowa or the Cooler could have a Caucus Clambake Cookout before the strawpoll. We're assuming clambakes involve heavy drinking?

Or if it was Tennessee we could have some BBQ. Real pork shoulder cooked slow with indirect heat, not that stuff they pretend is BBQ from up north.

Clams don't take that long, but they DO need to be living prior to baking. They have got to do something with those squirmy bivalves -- even upstate.

This falls under the "did you know" category. Iowa has plenty of freshwater clams, or we used to have plenty. That's sort of one reason the DNR encourages boaters to clean their hulls & props when they move a boat from one body of water to another. Zebra mussels like clams.

Just for the record, a ton of butter cannot save a steamed clam, only the fryer.
