Hodgepodge
- Vanity Fair does a profile on John McCain that includes his trip to Iowa in the fall and some relevant Iowa conservatives. The New Republic did a feature on Mitt and Mormonism but we don't have a password, so if anyone has the text of the article- send it over.
- Mitt has an exploratory committee website up. And his lawyer will be GOP lawmaker extraordanaire Ben Ginsberg.
- Tommy Thompson will be in Iowa at least once a week and he's going to "develop a field and grass-roots organization like you've never seen." We'll believe it when we see it.
- The new Hotline 08 ranking are out. We'd be remiss if we didn't note that Chuck Todd agrees with our assessment that Huckabee's falling, not Krusty's assessment that he's do for a comeback ;)
Back with more later this afternoon...

Cooler,
Agree with you. Huckabee is falling and conservatives are looking for the alternative to McCain or Romney. I think Todd hits the nail on the head when he says, "The conservative vacuum among the top three front-runners means someone is going to emerge," and that someone is certainly looking like Newt Gingrich if he wants it. Newt could win the nomination; just not sure he could win the general. A Clinton v. Gingrich battle would be a fight of who can lessen their own negative ratings.
1135-
We agree that Newt could make a big splash if he got in.
Methinks the Tommy Thompson bit funny. As for New as "credible conservative alternative?" give me a break cooler! :)
How can Huckabee be falling if he's not even an announced candidate yet?

I think you just answered your own question.
We're talking perception, buzz, credibility 408. Those are all things that rise and fall for every politician. It's like the stock market.
Your candidate's stock is dropping.
Wait till next week, cooler. He hasn't even left office yet!!!
