The Drudge Primary
The Hotline brings up a point that we have alluded to around the Cooler a couple of times. It seems that Mitt Romney may have won one very important preseason sweepstakes, the "Drudge Primary." With all the action around the blogosphere on the Romney/Bay Windows Interview- one very notable person never mentioned it...Matt Drudge. Romney hired former BC04 Comm Director Matt Rhoades last week, bringing Drudge's closest ally with team Bush on board. We at the Cooler have thought for sometime that the conservative news gatekeeper could be hostile towards a Giuliani or McCain candidacy. We'll see if that trend continues.

- McCain hints at Pawlenty as possible running mate. H/T Race42008
- Democrat Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota suffered a stroke yesterday and underwent brain surgery. This is significant as in would bring the Senate back to a 50-50 tie and giving the GOP again the majority with Vice President Cheney as the tie-breaker. That being said, we should all keep Senator Johnson in our prayers.

On a side note. Probably one of the funniest things conservative radio host Michael Savage does is exclusively refer to Drudge as "High School Drop-Out Matt Drudge"
Always gets a laugh at Cooler HQ
It is true that Drudge is a very powerful voice and can guide the flow of news - but his role is shrinking rather than growing. The Way to Win outed his role and newsrooms seem to be less enthused about following his thought pattern.
Romney is going to falter with or without him.
Romney may falter. But I don't see how McCain will win the nomination if he can't win his home state? Romney has the upper hand there.
Drudge has his favorites, just like the Cooler does.
Why are we so surprised?
