Hodgepodge

We've got a couple of other things rattling around our heads but in the meantime here's a look at some 08 Headlines:

  • Romney dials for dollars. Smart little earned media gimmick. from the Romney campaign. Already this morning at Cooler HQ we've seen Fox News talk about the Gov'nah twice. Romney's sons say he'll need One Hundred Million Dollars to win this race. Whew.
  • Hugh Hewitt is a dumbass. While stating that he will "not endorse Romney," (wink) Hugh came out with his GOP Primary Power Rankings and placed McCain 6th below Duncan Hunter and didn't list Huckabee (sick em Peter)... That prediction really lends a lot of credibility to your analysis Hugh. In related news, Christie Vilsack released her power rankings yesterday and her husband Tom led the way. Hillary Clinton meanwhile fell 17th on the list, right behind the insurgent candidacy of Sally Pederson.
  • More on Brownback getting endorsed by Lehman and what how critical the abortion issue is to his candidacy. Brownback, the Caucus Cooler's CCA du jour, will participate in an anti-abortion march on the day of his announcement. Clearly, he's not trying to be subtle with this thing.
  • Concerns are arising about how some of Rudy Giuliani's clients will affect his Presidential bid. Among Rudy's clients are: gambling and horseracing interests, big polluters, and companies that worked to limit the influx of cheap prescription drugs from Canada. While the gambling could hurt Rudy in the Primary, the other contacts might cause him to lose some of his luster with independents and Democrats...

Update: We forgot to add. There's now an Iowa "Draft Newt" blog. Go check it out.

The problem is all the people who listen to Hugh's radio show without actually activating their brains hear garbage like that and think to themselves. "Yeah some guy I've never heard of really does have a better chance of winning than that stupid John McCain."

People are dumb.

I like how you acknowledge that Republicans just don't give a crap about big polluters. =)

Rudy has no prayer, never has and never will. Been saying for months. Only chumps will give money to his "campaign." Its bald-faced thievery on Rudy's part.

Nice observation Drew. (By the way yours is our favorite D blog in Iowa...)

To be clearer the point is that giving money to big polluters isn't going to be a make or break issue for most R Caucus goers. That's just how it is.

I hear Colorado Governor Bill Owens was named as a top advisor to Mitt Romney. I expect Owens will end up Romney's running mate in the event he gets the nomination.

It makes sense, a popular consservative Governor of a western state.

Romney/Owens 2008!!

Um Owens has a child out of wedlock... Probably not a prime VP candidate.

That's a dirty lie. How dare you tarnish the good reputation of Bill Owens and Mitt Romney with such scurrilous acusations?

That's a dirty lie? Why don't you think Owens ran for Senate? Why don't you think Owens ran for President? Why do you think he and his wife got divorced?

Pay attention.

He and his wife DID NOT get divorced, which makes THAT a dirty lie!

And for the record, Owens did not run for President because he didn't want to be a Duncan Hunter-level candidate and lose. It's much smarter to go with the sure thing and become Mitt Romney's vice-president or Sec. of Education.

It's all the talk here, anonymous. Mr. Owens is getting divorced from Mrs. Owens. We suspect he will shack up with or marry his former chief of staff, with whom he has a child. Clearly, a child born outside the confines of marriage. How interesting, then, that Billy boy participated in several state (Colorado) initiatives to lower the percentage of out of wedlock births. Classic republican, conservative hypocrisy.

I ask you...is this as bad, not as bad, or worse than getting a hummer in the oval office (another Bill we democrats know and love)? I would say it's much worse and smacks of the most aggregious double standard I've encountered in politics in quite some time.

Conservative anonymous, you really need to try out this thing called google. It's this really cool thing that lets you research information on the interweb highway, you know, that thing that's made up of a bunch of tubes (a la Ted Stevens).

Owens is done. As with most hypocritical conservative republicans, he was doing his thinking with his little head, not his big head.

Let me guess...you're probably also one of the idiots who's forwarding the e-mail about Obama that tries to paint him as Muslim terrorist. Nice, nice...if you can't come up with something of substance, go ahead and make up stuff.
