Hodgepodge

First we'd like to say that the Cooler staff has been busy the last 4 days helping various Iowa GOPers get elected. That will likely continue through the 7th, so expect light output from us over the next week or so and the Cooler will start ramping up with the wannabees sometime in Mid-November. We'll make a concerted effort to get a post up every day to satiate your appetite in the meantime

1. Thanks to the tipster who alerted us to the fact that McCain has inked Evan "Curly" Hultman of Waterloo and Richard Goebel of Dubuque to head up the veterans for McCain group here in Iowa. Hultman was the Attorney General of Iowa and he was the state veterans chairman for BC04.

Goebel is the state commander of the VFW.

These are two of the major players in the veterans community here in Iowa. Hultman is particularly well thought of in GOP circles.

2. Here's some fun news. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is running for President. Hunter is the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee. He's been in Congress for 26 years.

"This is going to be a long road, it's a challenging road, there's going to be some rough and tumble, but I think it's the right thing to do for our country,"

Watch out Jim Gilmore. Rep. Hunter's coming after you.

Here's a link from the South Carolina Hotline with more on Duncan Hunter.

3. Keep your eyes out for a line update with Gilmore and Hunter later this week. That's all for now.

Hultman is no surprise. He's a left of center moderate and merely a name on a press release.

Don't get me wrong - great guy - but he doesn't bring anything to McCain other than a name that Curly likes to see in print.

Yippee! Get into the race, Rep. Hunter! We can't wait to see how you explain away your pork barrel spending spree in Washington, your "C" rating from the National Taxpayers Union and the 49% rating from the conservative Club for Growth.

This is just the kind of career politician who is losing the Congress for Republicans. We're not going to reward him in 2008 for his loose spending behavior over his last 13 terms in office.

I'm telling you brother, you are underselling Gilmore.

He is smart, very good on national security, terrorism and immigration, and very likeable.

You can buy me a steak at the Embers if Gilmore gets more than 5% in the 8-10 way Iowa Caucus.

I wasn't sure before, but I am now-Sporer is the most politically stupid person I have ever met.

Stick to suing people.

Real sporer-

If gilmore finishes in the top half of the field, we'll buy you the biggest steak you can eat and a nice cab to wash it down with...

If he finishes in the bottom half, you owe the cooler a six pack..

Deal?

Sporer and I have a steak dinner bet on who the nominee of our party will be. I'll let him tell you the terms, but I don't think he will. :P

He has a candidate and I have anyone else.

I'm on with the friendly, under $50 wager-Gilmore finishes in the top half I get 32 oz. of Iowa Pride at Iowa Beef Steak House. You win, you get a case of my favorite beer.

Since I'm "the stupist person in Iowa politics" I should get some odds, hence the disparity of bounty to be gained from the wager.

........and Yoda-you are paying at 801 Steak and Chop Shop!

Sporer - You may not be the stupidest person in politics. But based on your posts and blog, I would not be surprised if you have serious anger management issues.

Actually Sporer you are not the "stupist" person in politics, you are just have no political instincts. If you think you are going to be chairman of the state party you are out of your mind and need to be checked into a mental hospital.
