Emails Galore
Our inbox was bustling this morning from folks wanting to make sure we saw their blogging item of the day.
First to Romney, Roll Call released an article this morning showing that Iowa GOP County Chairs are cool to McCain. (password protected, email us if you'd like to read the whole thing) While not mentioning him by name, Polk Co. GOP Chair and frequent Cooler commenter Ted Sporer was among those that expressed disenchantment with his candidacy. In fact only 6 of the 63 chairs were enthusiastically backing McCain, with another 15 expressing some interest in his candidacy. When asked blindly which candidate is firing up "the base," they said Mitt Romney. The Fayette County chair had particularly nasty comments on McCain saying she had "no use for him."
This article reflects the conventional wisdom we've been spouting at the Cooler for sometime. McCain clearly has hurdles in front of him when it comes to the partisans and far right wingers. These folks that are upset with McCain are Romney's targeted constituency. McCain's support, as reflected in the polls done in Iowa, come from a different group in the party. The article in a sense reflects everything that the Gang of 50 has said about this race from the start and reaffirms Romney's position on top of the Cooler line.
The other item going around comes courtesy of the good-folks at you-tube. This clip shows why Romney will have to use his entrenched advantages (money and organization) to keep hold of the right wingers like those in the article above that are cool to McCain. Because they might not like what the see here.

1224- So when Burton Rider went on an anti-McCain rampage in the comments yesterday, you count that as Romney people promoting Romney.
Or all the "McKennedy" posts, or Cancer Man attacking McCain every chance he gets.
Either you need to get your eyes checked or you are just seeing a trend that you want to see.

assuming we're talking about the same email, I wouldn't really consider forwarding an article written by roll call a staff-lead attack against McCain.
I don't support McCain or Romney. I only support real conservatives.
In his book, "From Hope to Higher Ground, Gov. Huckabee says:
"I'm a conservative, pro-life, pro-family, evangelical who believes in God, lower taxes, less government, personal empowerment, personal ownership, and personal responsibility."
Here's another one for you Mitt-lovers who claim Huckabee's isn't a fiscal conservative.
"During my tenure as governor, we were able to make the following reforms in our tax structure:
(1)Eliminated the income tax for families below the poverty line.
(2) Increased the standard deductions.
(3) Eliminated the marriage penalty which had increased the tax liability of married couples.
(4) Eliminated the bracket creep thereby preventing taxpayers from moving into a higher tax bracket.
(5) Doubled the child-care tax credit.
(6) Eliminated the capita; gains tax on the sale of a home.
(7) Passed the first broad-based tax cut in the state's history.
(8) Signed a property taxpayer's bill of rights allowing taxpayers to appeal valuation and assessments.
(9) Provided an income tax credit for companies that provide or re-imburse for training and education programs for employees.
(10) Cut the capital gains tax for individuals and businesses in order to encourage investment."
Not too bad for someone who "isn't" a fiscal conservative as the Mitt people say he is. Isnt it?

I can't see how people watching that video hurts Romney. It shows the context of the comments. It's much better for Romney than seeing the quotes on paper.

Actually it really isn't that easy....
I get called Kermit by the padawons behind my back during saber practice, The Ewoks make fun of my height, Some of the other Jedi instructors want me to pay my "fair share" to their union and everytime I apply in person for a green card, the INS lady snikers at me.
But hey at least I'm younger than John McCain and being an "undocumented" alien, I can anticipate blanket amnesty if he becomes president.....

Yeah, Cooler, how about a full post on Mitt's response?
It's only 13 hours old, as opposed to 13 years old.
But it does represent 13 years of maturity, growth, governance and perspective.

Yeah, Romney's a media slut. That's why he was the only 08-er who wasn't on TV after the President's speech.
Probably because he is one of the 08-ers that is pleading the fifth when it comes to Iraq. It wasn't until a couple days ago that he made comments at all and that was in a written document.
Of course he wasn't on TV. It's still too fresh for him to remember what his stance is, or at least what someone told him his stance is (for now anyway).
