Here are some rumblings from around the morning watercooler..
  • Jim Gilmore was the speaker at the RPI Christmas gathering last night. The word from RPI HQ is that he was joined by Polk County activist and former state central committee member Dale Blair, journeyman political operative Troy Bishop, and telecomm lobbyist Stephanie Millie. Gilmore is really beefing up his Iowa efforts in his attempt to find a constituency to the right of Romney and McCain. The Cooler has been on the Gilmore story from the start...
  • Sam Brownback will be in Dubuque and Davenport today. If any of the minions are in attendance, send us a report to the tipjar and we'll post it tomorrow. (Notice the Brownback mention is just a sidebar to another Vilsack article).
  • According to Steve Scheffler, Rudy Guiliani has not even attempted to court the Iowa Christian Alliance (go to page 2 of this story). Word around the Cooler is that he has at least talked to Romney, Brownback, and McCain about joining forces.

All for now...

If that is the case, which I doubt, he will go with Romney because Romney will pay the most to stop the collapse of his candidacy with social conservatives in the last few weeks.

Scenerio: Rudy joins Romney.
Result: Romney's months of effort to convince Republicans he's conservative go out the window.

Scenerio: Rudy joins Brownback.
Result: Brownback's conservative credentials are questioned, leaving the door wide open for Huckabee to walk through courting Christian conservatives.

Scenerio: Rudy joins McCain
Result: The few people that support McCain even though he's the most liberal Republican in the Senate jump ship, leaving the Straight Talk Express floating in the middle of the ocean.

Realistically, the only person he can join up with is Pataki. They are cut from the same cloth, and they can appeal to the mass of moderates and indys to try win.

and 2:45 you forgot the part about how Rudy and Pataki hate each other.

Thanks anyway for your informed insight. (rolls eyes)

anonymous 2:45, I think the cooler, was saying that Scheffler has talked to Romney, Brownback, and McCain about joining up, NOT that Rudy has talked to them about joining up. The latter is ridiculous.

Mark this as the first time this blogger has agreed with Cancer Man.

i really don't expect Scheffler to sign on with any candidate. He's worked too hard to establish credibility for the ICA to leave that role now that the organization has started to do well. There was a lot of cleaning up to do in turning some of the whackos into a respected and credible organization. He's done it well and I would be really surprised if he would risk any potential backlash against ICA.

You and 2:45 forgot about the fact that running mates cannot be from the same state. Idiots (rolls eyes).
