Draft Branstad!

Great Question.

This article just made us laugh so hard that we had to post. Jim Gilmore "will not rule out a Presidential bid," according to the Daily Communist err Progress. After a quick conversation with the Cooler staff you would be suprised to know that none of us are ruling out a bid either.

The best part is that they have a website. draftgilmore.com. They have a flier titled "America needs Gilmore." America needs Gilmore like the Cooler staff needs hemroids. Seriously, if you are going to start a Draft Gilmore site, we might as well get a Draft Branstad or Draft Ray site going. Maybe Jim Nicholson or Bill Brock want to run.

This is great comedy. We really hope the Gilmore folks come into the Cooler and argue for their guy. That would be great.

For clarity's sake, we don't hate Jim- he's not a bad guy.. but President. Give it a rest.

I don't think that you should discount Jim Gilmore. He is one of our smartest and most articulate spokesman.

As everyone knows, I am not endorsing anyone-and the Hot Spouse does not speak for me, try as she might-but Gilmore as a dark horse is merely evidence of our leadership depth.

Gov. Gilmore would also be a very good SoD or SHS. Isn't it nice to have such depth compared with the Democrat dearth? Jim Gilmore would be one of the leaders of the Democrat pack.

Ted, Ted, Ted. We love ya but c'mon.. You are much too savvy to think Jim Gilmore has a chance to be a dark horse candidate for President.

Out of the past three Republican candidates for President, two of them were former RNC Chairman.

Was dole an rnc chair?

847- you also have to consider that all 3 of the last 3 nominees had 4 letter last names. So look out for Steve King!

Dole was RNC Chair from 1971-73, immediately preceding George H.W. Bush.

Gilmore right now could not win a statewide republican nomination for dogcatcher in Va but he has been attempting to rehab the image lately. Fairly or unfairly most GOP insiders and grassroots people has a negative view on him right now.

Alex Bledel, aka Rory Gilmore, has a better chance. Except that she's probably, like, 17 or so.

Ha! Burton, that is now officially on my quote wall - one of the coolest things I've heard said in my 08 readings . . .

Burton-Dude I'm a little worriedf about you.

David Gilmour-I expected.

Gary Gilmore-wouldn't have been surprised.

Gotta agree with VACitizen. As a former virginia voter, now back in Iowa, I haven't heard a good thing about Gilmore in over 5 years. He crashed and burned his reputation amongst the grassroots with all the personal issues swirling around. And frankly, didn't hear that his time at the RNC was positive either. His time is past.
