McCain wins another "Corn"y Poll

A year from the straw poll WHO-TV's Dave Price thought he would conduct a corn poll.

On the Republican side, Senator John McCain came out on top with 24 percent, and Rudy Giuliani and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice were tied with 20 percent.

McCain was in the state this week and we have recieved numerous tips in the tip jar that claim turnout was very high during his travels. One tipster said there were nearly 200 guests at Latham's home in Mason City for a fundraiser with Rep. Schickel.

For the Democrats, John Edwards tied Senator Hillary Clinton, each with 33 percent. The two were followed in the informal poll by Governor Tom Vilsack.

Update Full results with percentages at Dave's blog

Republicans shook out like this: McCain, Rudy/Condi (tie), Newt, Mitt, Dr. Frist, Huckabee, Pataki, Allen, Brownback.

Romney 9% and Pataki 2% - looks like the Cooler may want to reevaluate the Cooler Line.

Romney and Pataki have terrific Iowa organizations and its 2006. We'll keep it how it is until some of the people ahead of them in the corn poll (Rudy, Condi, Newt) get serious about a run.

Yeah, Phil Gramm had a terrific organization too. Uhhh, how 'bout Forbes and Alexander in '00. Great organizations, all the right "talent" on the ground. To no avail. Condi is the right individual, and all the "talent" and organization will not be able to stop the "outside the golden dome" groundswell that will occur. To some extent, Rudy could have that kind of support as well, although his social issues problem will be a big hurdle.

So you're saying Condi should be on our line Max?

With Rudy, his stock will go up as soon as he commits to running and starts picking up fundraisers, staff, and an organization.

I would leave her at "Off" because it would be impossible to determine by how much she would lead your field. How's that for confidence? Just having fun. Condi is my Rushmore ya know.

This is a big win for Rudy and Romney, and a big loss for Allen.

Rudy (with no organization) is able to match McCain (who has a huge organization). And Mitt is able to go from essentially nowhere name-ID wise to a solid 9%, based on the strength of his groundgame.

Allen at 1%? Wasn't he supposed to be the darling of the straw poll crowd?

Rudy,
It was a 1 day corn poll that none of the campaigns actively participated in. Besides, McCain has 1 iowa staffer, not a huge org. Don't think this is a "huge" loss or gain for anyone.

What a 'nice' picture of McCain.....Look at that mouth! I wonder if he cooked all those Corn Dogs with his own hot air?
